Pay: $28.00 per hour
Schedule: Weekend availability; Saturdays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Additional hours may be requested during SFUSD school holiday breaks *TBD

Position Summary:

Urban Ed Academy’s SMART+ Saturday Program is a free program that provides a fun, safe and
engaging space for San Francisco middle schoolers. We are looking for a part-time leader to
inspire and educate students. Program Leaders are responsible for providing quality
programming to youth. Program Leaders will develop and facilitate recreation, enrichment, and
academic-based STEAM and Entrepreneurship activities. Program Leaders build and maintain
strong and productive relationships with and among students, parents and the Bayview
community. Program Leaders should be adept at fostering a safe, equitable and engaging
student-centered learning environment for students of color.

About Us:
Founded in 2010, Urban Ed Academy uses hands-on, interactive, and culturally relevant
approaches to ensure students gain an understanding of themselves, the world around them,
and how it applies to various academic and social settings. All academic courses-including math,
electronics, and coding – are project-based and interdisciplinary to enhance the ability of
students to see how traditional academic context is used in their everyday life. In addition,
recreational and social development activities provide opportunities for students to interact
with local mentors and enable them to see themselves in the future.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
➢ Design, plan, implement a project-based curriculum to support youth’s social-emotional,
academic and physical success
➢ Prepare and organize teaching materials, including long-term, unit and daily lesson plans
➢ Facilitate academic, STEAM-centered, and Entrepreneurship activities that boost youth’s
academic achievement and strengthen their critical thinking and social skills
➢ Attend all 1:1, team meetings, and training and professional development sessions
throughout the year
➢ Maintain a professional attitude and work ethic
➢ Maintain ongoing positive and supportive communication with parents and guardians of
children in the programs and staff
➢ Support overall program logistics by participating in community outreach and
engagement events
➢ Perform other duties as required


Minimum Qualifications:
➢ Minimum of 18 years old
➢ At least 2+ years of experience working with Middle School youth
➢ Ability to work collaboratively and self-directed
➢ Have knowledge of and enthusiasm for youth development work
➢ Experience teaching/leading in a classroom setting
➢ Good interpersonal and communication skills
➢ Experience with classroom management and facilitation techniques
➢ Experience with behavior management tools and have an understanding of the
Restorative Justice approach
➢ Experience working in diverse communities of staff and participants
➢ Understand and implement COVID protocols *when deemed necessary


Requirements: (with agency support)
➢ TB test clearance (negative result)
➢ Fingerprint background check clearance
➢ Must attend a virtual or in-person Mandated Reporter Training
➢ Become CPR and First Aid certified
➢ Must be able to attend Fall training- 9/16/23 and 9/23/23
➢ Must be able to work 2-3 Saturdays a month for the 23-24 school year
➢ No programs on federal holiday weekends (bank holidays)


Physical Requirements:
➢ Must be able to lift 25 lbs or more and be comfortable standing, walking, and bending
for long periods of time
➢ You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the job’s essential
functions with or without reasonable accommodations
➢ Must be able to move freely through the community
